Meet Our Attorneys & Staff


Sharon E. Dunmore, esq

Sharon E. Dunmore serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Gate City Legal Services, Inc., as well as a Trial Attorney and Advocate in the areas of Criminal Defense, Immigration, and Family Law. Attorney Dunmore practices law in the North Carolina state court, as well as the Executive Office of Immigration Review Charlotte Immigration Court. 

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Attorney Dunmore arrived in North Carolina in 2010. She is a 2013 graduate of Guilford College, with Bachelors Degrees in Criminal Justice and Anthropology. 

Attorney Dunmore subsequently attended Elon University School of Law, and graduated in 2016 with her Juris Doctor. During law school, she was actively involved in the Elon University Humanitarian Immigration Law Clinic, where she successfully led a service trip to an immigrant family detention center in Karnes, Texas. Attorney Dunmore also served on the Trial Advocacy Board for Elon Law’s Mock Trial competition team. During law school, she maintained internships at various immigration firms, as well as the Office of the Guilford County Public Defender. 

Attorney Dunmore zealously counsels and advocates for each and every client, and works meticulously to help her clients better understand the legal system. Attorney Dunmore ensures that her client’s voices are heard throughout their entire legal process.


Ryan O. Hargrave, esq

Ryan O. Hargrave serves as the lead Criminal Defense and Trial Attorney for Gate City Legal Services, Inc. Attorney Hargrave practices Criminal Defense and Family Law in the North Carolina state court.

As a native of Taylorsville, North Carolina, Attorney Hargrave graduated from Presbyterian College in 2013, where he served as a co-captain of his Division 1 Basketball team. At Presbyterian College, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Minor in Biology. Attorney Hargrave earned his Juris Doctor degree at Florida Coastal School of Law, where he graduated in 2016. While in law school, Hargrave completed prestigious internships encompassing Veteran’s Benefits to Criminal Prosecution and Defense.

As a former Assistant District Attorney in Guilford County, North Carolina, Attorney Hargrave has extensive trial experience. He is well respected among his peers, and strives for the best outcomes for his clients. Attorney Hargrave has both District and Superior court trial experience, ranging from bench trials to jury trials.

Attorney Hargrave is very involved in the community, where he continuously serves as a mentor to young men and women at Caesar Cone Elementary School and the Triad Basketball Association in Greensboro, North Carolina. He strives to make a difference, not only by being a role model for young men and women, but advocating for his fellow members of the Guilford County communities.


Daniel P. Karlsson, esq.

Daniel Karlsson serves as Gate City Legal Services, Inc.'s Executive Managing Director. 

Attorney Karlsson earned his B.A. in History and his Masters degree in Women's & Gender Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  He then earned his J.D. from Elon University School of Law in 2016.  While attending Elon, he was an active participant in the Elon University Humanitarian Immigration Clinic, and interned with the Office of the Public Defender of Guilford County.

Attorney Karlsson has been a resident of the Triad area for over 20 years.  He believes strongly in the building of and support of the community, by the community.  As a practicing attorney in the Triad, he is armed with the tools which allow him to assist in making this community more just, and can give back to the community by helping those members who are often the most in need.


Office manager: Alex P.

Alex P. serves as Gate City Legal Service Inc.’s Office Manager of administrative staff and interns. Raised in North Carolina, she attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and graduated in 2018 with a B.A. in International and Global Studies, concentrating in Human Rights. During that time she also minored in Political Science and Peace and Conflict studies. Currently, she is earning a post baccalaureate certificate from UNCG in Nonprofit Management.


LEGAL ASSISTANT: ANTONIO R.

Antonio R. serves as the Legal and Office Assistant for Gate City Legal Services, Inc. He also serves as our Spanish interpreter and document translator.

Antonio was born and raised in Indio, California and later moved to Greensboro, NC in 2010, where he attended Guilford College. Antonio holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and a minor in Education, which he obtained in 2016.

Antonio is currently working and focusing on his next steps in his career path with a focus and interest in Immigration.


intern: Andrew D.

Andrew D. is an intern at Gate City Legal Services. He is currently completing his second year of law school at Elon University School of Law, where is also an Acedemic Fellow. He volunteers his free time to work with the North Carolina Center on Actual Innocence. Andrew has a Bachleors Degree in History with minors in Criminal Justice and Communications from Guilford College, where he graduated with High Honors.

Andrew aspires to practice Criminal Defense upon graduating from law school.


Intern: Cynthia H.

Cynthia is currently a second year law student at Elon University School of Law, and an intern at Gate City Legal Services, Inc. Cynthia received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Maryland, College Park. Upon graduation, Cynthia relocated to Greensboro to serve as a Teach for America Corps Member, where she worked as a high school Spanish teacher and coached the women's junior varsity soccer team.

Cynthia hopes to practice criminal and immigration law in the future to bridge the justice gap and be an advocate for her community.


Intern: Walker M.

Born and raised in Auburn, Washington, Walker M. completed his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University - Idaho and majored in Exercise Physiology. He currently attends Elon University School of Law as a second year law student, and aspires to work in family, business, and real estate law. He is also an active member of the Military Law Society at Elon.
